New England Event of the Fall  Season Presented in conjunction with Alpacas LLC

Lightfoot Farms, as part of Alpacas LLC, hosts an annual conference. The first held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel & Conference Center, Nashua, New Hampshire featuring Mike Safley as well as internet experts, Hazen & Susan Reed. The second located at a hotel & farm in Maine and the third at a Maine Community College and at Lightfoot Farms featuring Dr Toni Cotton, Dr Stachowski, Dr Daniela Bedenice and Mary Reed.

Anthony Stachowski, DVM,a leading expert in the Alpaca world, presented a program: "The Future of the Alpaca Industry". He will discuss the current state of the Alpaca Industry and its future based upon his personal and extensive experience in livestock. Dr Stachowski has been in the Alpaca Industry since 1984.

He  maintains his award winning Alpaca herd of over 250 in Ohio. He competes on a National and  International level.

Band of Breeders Takes Charge!

Three Maine alpaca breeders have joined forces under the name Alpacas LLC to bring to New England much needed professional education for alpaca owners and prospective breeders.

Andes Alpaca Farm of Auburn, Maine (Morelia & Gil Candia), Lightfoot Farms of Kennebunk, Maine (Doris & Walter Van Buskirk) and Stonewall Farm of

Searsmont, Maine (Leslie & Carol Bacon) hosted their first seminar September 11 & 12, 2004 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel & Conference Center in Nashua, New Hampshire.

Mike Safley of Oregon, renowned alpaca breeder and author was the featured speaker. In his first New England lecturing engagement Mr. Safley spoke on a variety of subjects dealing with ‘smart’ purchasing of alpacas. Susan and Hazen Reed of Breedworks of New York presented marketing concepts and the use of the internet for marketing.

This ‘Band of Breeders’ has formed Alpacas LLC for the purpose of offering professional continuing education in the field of alpacas. These progressive breeders believe in the alpaca industry. Their goal is to educate and inform new breeders and promote the health and welfare of these beloved creatures.
